Weekly Geeks #12 - Linking Book Reviews


When Dewey started Weekly Geeks, one of the first projects she encouraged us to do was link our book reviews to each other. Sadly, I've fallen of the wagon on this one. For people like me who need a refresher and for all the new Weekly Geeks this is a topic that could use repeating.

Let's look at Dewey's original post : Dewey's post.

Here's what we'll do:

1. Write a post encouraging readers to look through your archives (if you have your reviews in a particular place on your blog, point them there), and find the books that they have also written reviews. Tell them to leave a link to their review on your review post. For example, I've written a review for Gods Behaving Badly and Jane Doe leaves a link to her review of Gods Behaving Badly in the comments section of my review.

2. Edit your reviews to include those links in the body of the review post.

3. Visit other Weekly Geeks and go through their reviews. Leave links for them.

4. Leave a note somewhere on your blog to let people know this is your new policy.

5. Write a post later this week letting us know how your project is going!
This is a big undertaking but as Dewey put it, it's 'community building'. Have fun!

I love this idea.. and I encourage whoever reviewed a book that I have also reviewed to leave me their link here and I will add it to my review of the book..
As for any new reviews in the future, please leave me your links in the comments of the same book so I'll edit the review and add them :)

I believe this will make a very nive circle of blogging friends..

Friday Fil-Ins #117

Unwanted Visitor by Lori Derby Bingley

This was one of my 1$ purchases :)..

It's a short story about a man trying to get back his wife after some unknown pleople kidnapped her in the middle of the night from their home.

Will he get her back? Will there life ever be the same? Or is he risking his life in the process?

I liked this story although it was short I felt it was a complete story. It was a nice short mystery ! If I say more I'll just spoil it :)

They’d come into his home … their home … in the middle of the night and taken her right from under his watchful eye. He’d been held down, gagged, and then knocked out as he watched his wife taken by two large men who could kill her with a single punch. He worried they’d hurt her, or even worse … that she was dead and he was already too late.

The Darkest Fire by Gena Showalter

This is a prequel to the Lords of the Underworld series, so I thought I'll start the series with reading this short book to see if it grabs my attention..

Kadence is a goddess, who is some kind of warden to hell and Geryon is the Gaurdian of hell.. For hundreds of years he has been guarding it not leaving his post, while she visits daily to check that everything is ok.

They secretly fall in love with each other, then are forced to test that love if it's true or just some infatuation.

Nice love story but I wasn't really excited about demons and lucifer and gods/godesses.. Vampires and Werewolves are fine by me but this was just too much.. there love for each other was sweet but the rest of the story was not really likeable .. I just felt guilty reading it! Can't really put my finger on the exact reason but in general.. So I was not really comfortable, but I wanted to see what happens in the end. The end was not what I expected so that was another letdown.

I was feeling like some curse will fall on me anytime while reading it.. too dark :)

Now I'm skeptical about even reading the next book! I might check some more reviews to see if it's somewhat different, hopefully better!

Booking Through Thursday - Best Bad Book?

The opposite of last week’s question: “What’s the best ‘worst’ book you’ve ever read — the one you like despite some negative reviews or features?”

I had to search for the worst books of all time lists and found that I enjoyed a number of them..

For example.. the number one book was The DaVinci Code, and truth be told I was facinated by that book.. true I read it before I started blogging my reads so I don't have a review for it but I would have givin it a 4 stars out of five..

As for choosing to read it, it was chosen because I heard about the controversy around it and chose to see for myself.

The second book on the list was no other than Twilight.. I enjoyed that book although I've read so many negative reviews about it.. but I read it after I already finished the 7 Harry Potter books and there was no more so I thought of trying Twilight out as a substitute after HP and I enjoyed it very much.. I even recommended it to my neice who is a very dedicated HP fan and she enjoyed it too.. I would say the same for the rest of the series too :)

This one I chose because I read that it was about vampires (something new for me to read about, now I just ADORE them) and was not introduced to the land of blogging yet so I didn't get to read the mixed reviews until after I already read the first 3 books of the series :)

The Pumpkin Mashers by Linda Oness

This is also an ebook I bought from Champagne Books for $1, trying out new authors :)

It starts with a traveller getting killed by some creature and nobody knows what this creature is on a farm owned by a man and his twin daughters.

The Sheriff comes by to tell them about it and they all assume it's an accident and that the man was killed by a wolf!

But the Sheriff is not convinced and tries to investigate.. will there be more to it than just a mere accident?!

It's a short story, but not to my taste. I was disappointed with the ending! Maybe with a bit more details it would have been better for me.. just not my cuppa tea!
