The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Year Published: 1921

My Rating: 4 stars

64 pages

Distance:

This was an amazing story, the idea was so unique I just loved it.. plus it was the first book I read on my IPhone :)

Benjamin Button was born in 1860 an old worn and withered man, and as he grew "older" he was growing younger.. From having conversations with his grandfather and smoking cigars to playing with his grandchild and attending Kindergarten with him..

He became a successful business man, fell in love, married, had children, went to war, attended Harvard, prep school, kindergarten and ending with his nurse to take care of him..

Very interesting and inspiring, shows how the aging process effects the person and those around him, the respect he gets at certain phases in his life..

But it does keep me wondering HOW he was born? I mean he was the size of a grown man, surely his mom had a C-Section ;)

Now I need to check out the movie, I know Brad Pitt is in it, so I'm assuming he played the part well :)

Another review @ R. is for Reading
And Another @ Lost in Books

I'm going to commit a blasphemy and say: I do not like Fitzgerald :o. I have heard a lot about this story but I hesitate to pick it up because Fitzgerald's writing does not appeal to me. Okay, another blasphemy: I also do not like Brad Pitt :o :o who was in the movie. That turned me off more than anything.
But your review is great nonetheless.

I have so wondered about this book ever since I heard about the movie. Sounds so very weird, a must have to read :)

Lilly, thanks :) I don't know about Fitzgerald because this is the first time I read a book by him so, and I also can't say that I will read another book by him.. because what fasinated me what the idea of the story not the writing :) so I don't regard it as a blasphemy :)
But Brad Pitt is another thing entirely.. I adore him ;) although I didn't like Babel still he is one of my favorite actors :)
What made me read the story was the talk about the movie and Brad Pitt being in it so I thought of reading the story PLUS the idea that I was able to download it to my IPhone for free.. :)

Blodeuedd, yeah the story is unique and since it's short read it won't take much time to read.. go for it :)

Ha the onllllyyyy thing similar between the book and the movie is the idea that he is aging backwards, so don't go in assuming that they are at all alike. But the movie definitely is a stand alone I think in one upping a story. Let us know what you think once you see it!

There was a Danish thriller series a few years ago in which a poor woman gave birth to the son of the Devil, also a grown man. We did not see the birth as such, but we certainly felt for the poor woman, looking like a hippo.

I like books with different perspectives and time aspects. Have you read Oscar Wilde´s The Picture of Dorian Gray, by the way? He also toys with time & growing old.

I second Dorte on the Wilde recommendation. Afraid I am also not crazy about Brad Pitt (unless he is opposite George Clooney *sigh* in an "ocean" movie). Your review reminds me that I really need to read more Fitzgerald. Thanks!

Hello, Miss Critic! :-)

How was it I was so unaware that the movie was based on a book by Fitzgerald? I started tuning out the reviews on the movie as I had this feeling that it was one of those Oscar vehicle movies that actors like to take on and I wasn't sure Pitt was up to the task. I will have to read the book, especially after your review.

Padfoot and Prongs, as usual they have to change the story huh?!
Well I'm planning on seeing it soon so I'll tell you what I think when I do :)

Dorte, no I have not read that or any of Wilde's books as a matter of fact.. but I'll certainly look for it! thanks for the recommendation :)

ds, guess Brad doesn't have many fans here :) as I told Dorte, I'll look up Wilde's book :)

Hello Mr. Maqsood!

Vickie, glad you found the review worth making you want to read the book :) I didn't know except by coincedence when I was looking for free stuff for my IPhone :)

I had no idea it was a book first. Color me stupid. I have yet to see this movie, but I think I'll wait until you do and see what you think. :)

I've neither read the book OR seen the movie (and I'm a fan of Pitt). It will end up on my Q for Netflix at some point!

I'm curious. I haven't read the book or watched the movie, but plan to do both now.

Erika, as I told Vickie that I didn't know it was a book either :) I'll try to watch the movie soon so I would tell you about it :)

Sandy, that's great :) at last a Brad fan ;) I'll try to watch it soon!

TexasRed, that's great ;) Do tell us what you think when you do :)
