Friday Finds (May 29)
What great books did you hear about /discover this past week? Share with us your FRIDAY FINDS! :)
The books I heard of or discovered this past week and I really hope I'll read soon are..
1. Goodnight, Irene by Jan Burke
For thirty-five years the identity of the dismembered woman found under the Las Piernas pier has remained a mystery. What secret did she take to her grave? Southern California reporter Irene Kelly has uncovered a maze of forensic records and confidential files that suggest a motive far more sinister than anyone imagined. The discovery has brought her close to Detective Frank Harriman, and closer still to exposing a killer who will resort to anything to keep his secrets buried — and Irene silenced forever.
2. Killing Fear by Allison Brennan
Fear Never Dies
Theodore Glenn is bright, charismatic, and loves to inflict pain . . . both on his victims before they die and on those who later find their mutilated corpses. At his trial seven years ago, Glenn vowed vengeance on his persecutors: Detective Will Hooper, the cop who nabbed him, and beautiful Robin McKenna, the stripper whose testimony put him behind bars.
When a catastrophic disaster sets convict Glenn free, he blazes a freshly-bloodied path across San Diego County. But the death he craves most is Robin McKenna's.
Putting aside their past troubled relationship, Will rushes to protect Robin, now a savvy businesswoman operating her own upscale club. As the killings mount and Glenn proves a master manipulator, Robin and Will become snared in a twisted web of horror. But the shocking truth is even worse, for this macabre mystery has a twist: the evil they face is even more deadly than they fear.
3. Lucid by Katherine Yeboah (This book I got from Debra at reviewyourbook.com)
"It's called lucid dreaming. When you become aware that your dream is a dream, while you're actually dreaming it." Lucid dreaming. It sounded an intriguing enough prospect. A prospect worth giving a go. Why not? And, sure enough, Sloane's first journey into this heralded other-world does not disappoint. A dream unlike any she has ever experienced engulfs her. Swallows her whole. The thrill, however, comes quickly to an end, when Sloane finds herself gazing into her neighbor's apartment. And what she sees there, in a shadowed, secret room, will haunt her from that moment forward.
4. Essential Seduction by Nikki Soarde (This book I got from Debra at reviewyourbook.com)
David Metcalfe seduces women for a living. However, after several years as an undercover operative, using his dashing good looks to facilitate the quest for justice has lost its appeal. And when a retaliatory attack lands him in the hospital, he decides it's time to move on.
When friend and former colleague Detective Stevie Soltice comes to him with a special request, it's hard to say no. Especially when the operation involves rescuing her daughter from The Way, a secretive cult isolated deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Stevie believes the only way in is through the founder's daughter Thea, a beautiful but lonely woman whom they hope will be vulnerable to David's unique talents.
When David meets Thea, she turns his life upside down. Her dedication and passion stir things inside him he's never experienced before and he finds himself falling in love for the first time. But the deception complicates things. And eventually he must decide what's more important. His love for Thea or the welfare of an innocent young girl?
5. Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin
Rardin fuses spy girl with vampire slayer in this entertaining but derivative debut. Jasmine Jaz Parks, a martial artist turned vampire-hunting government agent, is assigned to protect top-notch operative Vayl, a 300-year-old vampire on the side of the good guys. As Vayl helps Jaz to hone her supernatural abilities and she tries to keep from falling for his Romanian charm, they track down a dirty senator in cahoots with Mohammed Khad Abn-Assan, a terrorist who's making plans for a Red Plague spread through vampire-to-human contact. Rardin delivers all the paranormal touches that fans of Hamilton, Harris and Whedon enjoy, and Jaz's jittery narration amuses, but the fang-filled plot, replete with action licks and paranormal theatrics, will have trouble standing out in this overcrowded field.

Booking Through Thursday - Unread
In the perfect follow-up to last week’s question, as suggested by C in DC:
Is there a book that you wish you could “unread”? One that you disliked so thoroughly you wish you could just forget that you ever read it?
I must have more than one book that I wish I never read, but the only one that come's to my mind right now is Love-Slave To The Sheikh by Miranda Lee . I really wish I didn't waste my time on this book because I just hate this kinky domination thing and it was tooooooooo much, I think it scarred me for life! Just kidding :)
So what is the book that you wish you could "unread" ? To check out what others have to say check here ..

What's on Your Nightstand? (May)
This is a monthly event held on the forth Tuesday of the Month by 5 Minutes for Books.
You can participate in What's on Your Nightstand? in several ways. Choose what's appealing to you:
- Take a picture or simply give a list of the stack of books that you are in the process of reading or planning to read (it might be on your nightstand, on a bookshelf, or like me, under your bed).
- Give short reviews of the book or books that you read that month.
- Tell about what you are reading and why. I love to read the backstory on books. Did someone give it to you? Are you trying out a new genre at the recommendation of a friend (or website)? Did you stumble across a new author in a used bookstore?
- Fill us in on your reading habits. When are you reading these books? Is one reserved for bedtime reading? Does one stay in your car to be read while you are waiting? Do you read just one book at a time?
The books I read for the month of May are:
Out Of The Box (The Edge Series #1) by Kallysten
This I bought from Fictionwise at the spur of the moment and it's a short story so it didn't take much time to read. I then bought the whole series which are 10 ebooks until now, but I didn't get a chance to read any of them yet.. they are still waiting on my IPhone :)
The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
I've read so many reviews about this book and since it was done into a movie I thought I would try it out.
Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
This was the second book in the Demonica series and since I LOVED the first book I had to check the second one.. I was NOT disappointed.. I LOVED it as much as the first one!
Her Heart His Soul by Kari Thomas
This ebook was sent to me by Debra at Reviewyourbook.com for review.
Heart Storm by Liane Gentry Skye
This story was part of an anthology sent to me also by Debra at Reviewyourbook.com for review.
From Dead To Worse by Charlaine Harris
The eighth book in my favorite series "Sookie Stackhouse" and one of my favorite in the series.
Books I'm reading right now:
The Prey by Allison Brennan
Books I plan to read in June: (but hey planning does not mean I'm going to do it all, but I will try ;) )
Noble Blood by Linda J. Parisi
Kensington’s Soul by Faith V. Smith
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
No Limits by Alison Kent
The Accidental Werewolf by Dakota Cassidy
Accidentally Were by Anne Douglas

Teaser Tuesdays (May 26)
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Killing her wasn’t the beginning, and it certainly wouldn’t be the end. Many others deserved to die. But her death would be the most satisfying.
She stared at him, her face firm, a slight frown pulling down the corners of her lips. “I can’t live with another death on my conscience.”
Both from "The Prey" by Allison Brennan.

From Dead To Worse by Charlaine Harris
From Dead To Worse by Charlaine Harris
Year Published: 2008
My Raring: 5 stars
336 pages
This is the 8th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.
After the devastation of the vampire summit and hurricane Katrina things were not stable in the supernatural world. Some were's were being picked out and murdered and the new packleader is the suspect.
The vampire queen of Louisiana is not doing very well and other vampires are trying to take advantage of the situation!
Sookie is in the middle of all this plus some family problems with Jason she has to deal with.
Plus Sookie's boyfriend Quinn has disappeared since after the bombing of the Giza Hotel!
She gets introduced to new family members ;)
I loved this book as I have loved the previous books and since it does not have any hanky panky scenes with Quinn I am very happy :) Sookie is sucked in the problems of the supernatural world and she keeps trying to help as much as she could..
Some bittersweet scenes with Bill, Eric is adorable as usual, Sam is his sweet self, Alcide the good buddy and Amelia the perfect roomie!
I don't want to give too much away but action is high in this book, and as usual I highly recommend this book.. well actually this whole series :D
Quotes I enjoyed from the book: WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!
From his chair, Bill caught my eye and silently put his hand over his heart. It was a romantic and totally unexpected gesture, and for a moment I softened toward him.
"When you were the one who came to my aid, I decided it was fate. I did what I had been told to do by my queen. In so doing, I fell into a trap I couldn’t escape. I still can’t.” The trap of LUUUUVVVV, I thought sarcastically. But he was too serious, too calm, to mock. I was simply defending my own heart with the weapon of bitchiness.
“I would give anything to lie with you again,” he said.
He gave me a huge tip, and I glanced down to see that in my hurry to get downstairs I’d skipped a button. I was showing a little extra cleavage. I was momentarily embarrassed, but it wasn’t a slutty button, just a “Hey, I’ve got boobs” button. So I let it be.
“Hey,” I said. “How come Eric fetched me for you? You’re fairy, after all. Vampires go nuts when they smell fairies.” In fact, most vampires lost their self-control when they were around fairies. Only a very disciplined vampire could behave when a fairy got within smelling distance.
Niall had been able to mask the fairy odor from Eric in the restaurant, but I saw from the flare of Eric’s nostrils that the intoxicating scent clung to me. Eric’s eyes closed in ecstasy, and he actually licked his lips. I felt like a T-bone just out of reach of a hungry dog. “Snap out of it,” I said. I wasn’t in the mood. With a huge effort, Eric reined himself in. “When you smell like that,” he said, “I just want to f*** you and bite you and rub myself all over you.”
“I am woman, hear me roar,” I said.
“Bring it on, fur-ass!” she shrieked, beckoning with both hands to a Were who was slinking up on her from behind.
“Know this: I will die for her. If you harm her, I’ll kill you.” Bill turned his dark eyes on Eric. “Can you say the same?”
Bill knelt by my feet, his white face turned up to me. “I hope someday you’ll turn to me,” he said. “I’ll never force myself or my company on you.”
“Sitting here on your bed, smelling your scent,” he said in a voice so low I had to strain to hear it. “Sookie… I remember everything.”
“I want to be first. I know that’s selfish, and maybe unattainable, and maybe shallow. But I just want to come first with someone. If that’s wrong of me, so be it. I’ll be wrong. But that’s the way I feel.”
“I wonder if she even waited till they were in the ground before she activated the Aggravate Sookie to Death plan,” I said.
“I lay in front of your fire and talked to you about your life,” he said. Okay, way out of left field. “Uh. Yeah. We did that.” “I remember our shower together.” “We did that, too.” “We did so many things.” “Ah… yeah. Okay.” “In fact, if I didn’t have so much to do here in Shreveport, I would be tempted to visit you all by myself to remind you how much you enjoyed those things.” “If memory serves,” I said sharply, “you kind of enjoyed them, too.” “Oh, yes.”
“I’ll take your eye ahead of time, just in case you want mine.”
“I was not her first. And I always knew it was the vampire in me that attracted her, not the person who was a vampire.”
“I’m only telling you the truth. There has been only one you.”
If this was retaliation for the damn cheeseburger, I’d say she’d gotten a steak-size vengeance.
This was definitely an Oh, shit! moment. (An OSM, as I called them to myself.)
I’d straightened up and I was staring again. But when I glanced at Eric, I saw he was still bowing. Ah-oh. Well, I wasn’t one of his subjects and I wasn’t going to do that again. It had gone against my Americanness to do it once.
When he let go of me, I did an awkward sort of dip in the king’s direction (American! Not used to bowing!) and hopped into my car before either vampire could change his mind about my departure.
These are my reviews for the books I read from this series in order:
1. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
2. Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris
3. Club Dead by Charlaine Harris
4. Dead To The World By Charlaine Harris
5. Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris
6. Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris

This was a short story from an anthology called Secret Volume 27 given to me for review by Debra from reviewyourbook.com
I'm reviewing this because I might not finish the book, but if I do I might add the stories to this post!
Lieutenant Byron Burke lost his family to a merciless killer that slaughtered them one night when he was not home three years ago. He caught sight of the killer but couldn't catch him.. The killer with black eyes, soulless like a shark's!
When one day he goes surfing and gets caught in a storm Serenia rescues him. Serenia is a mermaid on a mission but when she saw Byron in trouble she had to make a detour to save his life.
When he wakes and finds a beauty checking him out he thinks he is in a dream!
Then trouble finds them and it's a fight for their lives as well as their love.
I liked the story although I'm not into mermaids.. all I know of mermaid land is The Little Mermaid and Splash :)
Quotes I enjoyed from this book :
Relief sluiced over him, the muscles in his shoulders unknotting. Perhaps he would not need to engage the land-walker after all.
The hormones that rendered a mermaid’s body supple enough to enjoy painless birthing also gentled the way for her to shift comfortably between her two forms unless she became landlocked by her breeding moon. Mermen, on the other hand, enjoyed no such advantages.
“Rennie,” he began, dragging a hand through his mussed hair. “I came out here a lost man, chasing the past. Swallowing audibly, he turned away and rattled out a sigh. When his gaze captured hers again, she saw that his eyes shone with wetness. “Instead of the past, I found my future,” he rasped, catching a stray tendril of hair between his fingers and tucking it behind her ear. “you have saved me in ways I didn’t know I needed to be saved.”
“Forgive me,” he said, pressing his lips to the crown of her head. “you don’t have to say it. Not now. Not ever. you’re free…”
“I understand now. And I swear to you, when you open your eyes, the sun will be shining and you will be free to love anyone your heart desires.”
Those eyes, so black. Soulless. Like a shark’s.

Musing Mondays (May 25)
Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about gift certificates…
I have never given gift certificates yet.. I would love to give them out because I would prefer my friends to get the books they prefer instead of giving them something they don't like or that they already have!
I would give an Amazon GC, never tried actual stores but it's tempting :)
Of course I love to recieve them myself, who doesn't?? I received a GC for Amazon from Play Book Tag a group on Shelfari.com .. that was so cool I was ecstatic, and went and got me a few books!!
I'm considering having a giveaway but since it's really hard to send books from my country because our post is not that reliable I've considered giving away GC's .. but I'm still in phase one :)

2. Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer

Booking Through Thursday - Gluttony
Mariel suggested this week’s question
Book Gluttony! Are your eyes bigger than your book belly? Do you have a habit of buying up books far quicker than you could possibly read them? Have you had to curb your book buying habits until you can catch up with yourself? Or are you a controlled buyer, only purchasing books when you have run out of things to read?
Her Heart His Soul by Kari Thomas
I got this book through Debra @ Review Your Book, if you are interested in reviewing books you could contact her :) She is such a sweet lady!!

The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
It took me awhile to write this review because of my mixed opinions about it, I liked the first part of it but the trial was boring, with too much details that didn't seem to add to the story.. The "Kid's" emotions were quite explainable, since she was his first love and the affair kind of "scarred" him for any other relationships because he was always comparing the other women with her.. but I didn't understand why he did not reveal her secret to help her or even talk her into revealing it herself!
The end was ok but I wanted a better ending! I can't say I hated the book, I liked it but that was it.. not a favorite nor a recommendation to anyone.. but I want to see the movie to compare ..

Out Of The Box (The Edge Series #1) by Kallysten
My Rating: 4 stars
38 pages
Distance:
Genre: Romance/ Dark Fantasy
Virginia went to the club looking for a vampire, and a vampire she found!
As soon as Anando set foot in the club, Virginia couldn't tear her gaze from him.. he captivated her.. then he started dancing with girls all around him.. but he had eyes only for Virginia..
She went home with him and he introduced her to a white chest full of surprises :)
I can't say more because it's such a short story and I will give it out if I do.. it was a nice short read and I enjoyed it.. but it is mainly erotica so if you are not interested in this genre I'd advise you to skip it.. and since the cover of the book is so explicit I will not post it!
EDITED:
I bought this title from Fictionwise for $0.48 and it is the 1st in a series of 10 short stories right now..
I went and bought them to read as soon as possible :)
