The Harlot by Saskia Walker
The Harlot by Saskia Walker
Year Published: 2011
My Rating: 5 stars
336 pages
I got this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
While Jessie Taskill -nicknamed the Harlot of Dundee- was fighting with a fellow whore for the favor of a client she is accused of witchcraft and sent to the tollbooth. This happened in front of Gregor Ramsay who was looking for a whore to help him seduce his enemy to take his revenge on him.
He found the exact thing he needed!! So he aimed on rescuing her on the terms of performing the task he asks of her.
She had a hard life, starting with watching her mother get burned at the stake by the villagers after accusations of witchcraft. She was always afraid to let her craft be known so as not to suffer a fate like her mother.
He had a hard life too, orphaned as a child and raised by his father that committed suicide when he was a youth, he vowed to take revenge on the man that caused his father to do so.
With a lot of hot scenes together it seems they are very suitable together.. Their romance flourishes with both of them denying the affection and assuming it's only business.
The tenderness and fierceness of their love is breathtaking. It was a refreshing book to read. Although I was not into the book at the beginning with using some certain words like cu**y and pu** for example which was a bit weird, then I got into the story and found it to be relevant to the timing of the story since it's 1715.
The love scenes are too hot to be believable but it was hot nevertheless. So I enjoyed it and devoured the book so fast.
I will be checking other books for this author and put her on my favorite list. I just love Scotland based novels, although it did not take part in the Highlands!!
So if you don't mind a bit of "old sex words", don't miss out on this great book.. It's romantic erotica at it's best!!
I loved the cover too, it is what attracted me to the book in the first place :)
A quote I enjoyed:
Jessie had grown fond of him, and it was in her nature to reach out to those who were suffering, even though that often brought trouble her way. I will help him with this. I will make it right.

Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris
Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris
Series: Sookie Stackhouse #10
Year Published: 2010
My Rating: 4 stars
238 pages
The is the 10th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.
Sookie is healing from the events from the past book and while doing so is visited by her cousin Claude. He then asks to move in with her because he is feeling lonely without his siblings.
Eric is showing a different side of him here, he is more lovable if that is even possible. Sookie was being too clingy and annoying at times, that's the reason for the four stars.
Alcide and Sam were hot as ever. I just adore them!
Everything is slow and peaceful in Sookieland until the Weres come to roam on her land and discover a body buried there and some fae activity. Although she is quite sure who the body belongs to she is wondering who these fairies might be.
When Eric sends in a tracker of his own to investigate, she discovers two bodies instead of one. So the Packmaster Alcide is summoned to check it out, since this happened after the roaming they did. Only to discover a surprise. And it seems the body was put there to frame Sookie for the murder.
Meanwhile Eric's maker is in town along with Eric's sibling, a very famous sibling, who is totally out of control. Eric is so out of sorts as of what to do with this new brother of his and how to help control him before it's too late.
I loved Eric and that he is so vulnerable and at loss.. He is always commanding and in control, but here he is at a loss of what to do.. Specially when he can't seem to form a plan.. He is sooooo cute, ehm and sexy!!
Bill is still sick from the silver poisoning after the fae war and Sookie is at loss to what she could do to help him. Then she gets an idea and hopes it works.
The book was at a slow pace up until about 92% of the book and then the action started!! But I still enjoyed it!
Quotes I enjoyed from the book:
"While you were with Neave amd Lochlan, I suffered with you," he said, meeting my eyes directly. "I hurt with you. I bled with you- not only because we're bonded, but because of the love I have for you."
*Isn't Eric just adorable and so romantic??* <--- that's me :)
"Do I smell fairy?"
"You do, but there's not one here now, so just rein it in. My cousin Claude was here today. He's going to be bunking with me for a while."
"Claude, the mouthwateringly beautiful asshole?"
Claude's fame preceded him. "Yes, that Claude."
" 'Better to reign in hell that serve in heaven,' " Pam said. I knew she was quoting someone, but I didn't have a clue who it was.
"Jump," Eric said, holding out his hands and smiling. I laughed. I took a running start, and leaped. Eric caught me, his hands clamped around my waist. He lifted me up until my head touched the ceiling. Then he lowered me for a kiss. I wrapped my legs around his torso, my arms around his neck. We were lost in each other for a long moment.
Pam said, "Back to earth, monkey girl. Time is passing."
"Come here," Eric said. His face held my very favorite expression, and I was doubly glad to see it because I didn't want to think too much about Debbie Pelt.
"Hmmm. What will you give me if I do?" I gave him a questioning eye.
"I think you know very well what I will give you. I think you love me to give it to you."
"So...you don't enjoy it at all?"
Before I could blink he was on his knees in front of me, pushing my legs apart, leaning to kiss me. "I think you know how I feel," he said, in a whisper. "We are bonded. Can you believe I'm not thinking of you while I work? When my eyes open, I think of you, of every part of you." His fingers got busy, and I gasped. This was direct, even for Eric. "
"Do you love me?" he asked, his eyes fixing mine.
This was a little difficult to answer, especially considering what his fingers where doing. "I love being with you, whether we're having sex or not. Oh, God, do that again! I love your body. I love what we do together. You make me laugh, and I love that. I like to watch you do anything." I kissed him, long and lingeringly. "I like to watch you get dressed. I like to watch you undress. I like to watch your hands when you're doing this to me. Oh!" I shuddered all over with pleasure. When I'd had a moment of recovery, I murmured, "If I asked you the same question, what would your answer be?"
"I would say the exact same thing," Eric said. "And I think that means I love you. If this is not true love, it's as close as anyone gets. Can you see what you've done to me?" He didn't really have to point. It was pretty damn obvious.
"You realize Eric won't like another man living in the same house with his woman."
"Another man who is my cousin and also gay."
"But very beautiful and a stripper." Pam glanced over at me. She was smiling. Pam's smiles are somewhat disconcerting.
"You can strip all you want to-if you don't like the person you are looking at while you're naked, it's not going to happen," I said tartly.
"He is male enough to want to look strong in front of you, Sookie. Truly, Eric's a great vampire, and very practical. But he isn't practical nowadays- not when it comes to you."
"That would be wonderful," Claude said. "I want my shower, and I want a hot one." He smiled at Terry.
"Dude, I'm not gay," Terry said, and the expression on Claude's face was priceless. I'd never seen Claude nonplussed before.
"Listen, while we're talking family," he said. "You ready to tell me how you're really doing? You told me about your great-grandfather and what happened. How are your injuries? I don't want to sound like I expect you to tell me everything that goes on in your life. But you know I care."
*ooooooh that's the loving caring Sam I adore* <----- me again :)
"Do you want to know what you're having?" Claude asked.
That was way out of bounds. "Claude," I said reprovingly. "That's too personal." Fairies just didn't have the same concept of personal information or personal space that humans did.
"I apologize," my cousin said, very insincerely. "I thought you might enjoy knowing before you buy their clothes. You color-code babies, I believe."
"How do you trust anyone?"
"I don't. There are two exceptions. You, and Pam."
"Oh," I said. I tried to imagine feeling like that. "That's awful, Eric."
I thought he'd shrug that off. But instead, he regarded me soberly. "Yes. It is not good."
Jason added ice to his glass and looked in the cookie jar. I didn't keep cookies anymore, because if I did, I'd eat 'em. He closed the jar sadly. Alexei was watching everything Jason did as if he were observing an animal he'd never seen before.
I kept running into stuff, and after a while Eric handed off his shovel to Jason and crouched so I could cling to his back. I kept my head tucked behind his so branches wouldn't hit me in the face. Our progress was smoother after that.
"Portia," he said. "Andy. I hope you don't find this too awkward."
I was busting-at-the-seams proud of Bill. It was easy to see where Caroline Bellefleur had gotten her graciousness.
Andy said, "I wouldn't have taken the money if I'd known it came from you." He evidently come straight from work, because he was wearing all his gear; a badge and handcuffs clipped to his belt, a holstered gun. He looked pretty formidable, but he was no match for Bill, even as sick as Bill was.
"Andy, I know you're not a fan of the fang. But you're part of my family, and I know you were raised to respect your elders."
Andy looked completely taken aback.
