What’s the saddest book you’ve read recently?
I usually avoid sad books because when I read I want something fun and entertaining.. life is already full of sadness.. but sometimes I get caught off guard..
I couldn't choose just one so the books that I remember that did that to me are.. (in no particular order)
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
PS, I Love You by Cecilia Ahern
A Boy Called It by Dave Pelzer
Sincerely Yours by Rebecca Goings
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
I shall definitely avoid these. There were a couple on there that I would like to read, but I just don't cope well with sad books.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, Atonement is incredibly moving.I feel the same way, although sometimes I like being caught off guard and getting that emotional pull from a novel.

ReplyDeleteI generally try to stay away from really sad books, too. And Atonement is one of the books I've avoided, for just that reason. Enjoyed the movie, though!

Oh, Atonement <3 . I loved that book. And the film adaptation was very well done.

ReplyDeleteThere are different interpretations of 'sad' books. I enjoy books that bring out emotion in me. I don't believe all sad books are depressing. I can still be entertained even if the story is sad or emotional. I cried a lot thru Bridges of Madison County.

ReplyDeleteVivienne, they might not be sad for you though.. I usually get depressed if there is a love triangle, or one-sided love so it could be a totally ordinary book for someone else :)
ReplyDeleteLilly, yeah I was so depressed with that book, it made me feel for her and all those depressing moments in the beginning of the book because i imagined myself in her place and understood how it might feel.. It would be extremely painful to lose my dear hubby (God forbid)..

Jo-Jo, yeah it was sad, I was even sad for the other guy.. that's why I try to avoid love triangles.. I keep thinking of all the sides..
Jlshall, the movie was much better than the book too, so you didn't miss much :)

I'm glad some of the books are interesting enough to catch your attention but please don't stop visiting :)
And thanks for asking I'm trying to cope as much as possible by distracting myself most of the day and only going to bed when I'm dead tired!

Nise', I read the first and second book of the 'It' boy and didn't finished the third, I also read his brother's book which is also sad.
From the Outlander series I only read the first book and loved it but some parts were sad specially thinking of poor Frank, the husband she left..
Lisa, yes I agree, my sad books are mainly books that I can relate to especially sad love stories.
Yvonne, I don't usually cry but I get depressed and stay that way for a couple of days :) but still I loved it and regard it as one of my favorite books.. I've recommended it a couple of times for my friends and family too!
Alaine, no crying or sobbing for me but my heart cried instead..
I loved the book, it's still one of my favorites :)
I cried very hard when I read The Notebook and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas made me felt very sad. Another book which was a tear-jerker for me was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The story was very moving and exceptionally well done.
